I know it might seem crazy that if I'm someone who usually will vote for the GOP that I would dislike and take issue with Rush Limbaugh and several pundits on Fox news such as Hannity and Beck. After all the GOP and these guys seem to go hand in hand. Howver, as someone who has studied political science, its affects in the media, and believes the GOP has an identity crisis it must address before the 2010 and 2012 elections its very hard for me to Rush. Why? Well several reason. First and foremost is how much they polarized the party and alienate it from getting voters who would usually vote the other way such as minorities. Rush's influence and his unfortuante standing as the figure head of the GOP draws such voters away and give the party in my opinion a bad reputation. It makes Republicans seems like a bunch of crazy blowhards who think healthcare is reperations for blacks. This feeling is espicaly troubling after we just lost a big presidental election and are a party in need of reform, yet we they back to Rush and the far right ways that polarize possible new voters and make the party look more split than it has to be. Further, Fox and Rush thrive off of making people mad and paranoid (by a giant liberal media cover up). They will present a story in a way that makes you mad and feel the country is falling apart everything it stands for. Further, it will make you feel like the entire media and world are out to distort the truth and that they are some sort of sanity in a world against you despite the fact that these shows have the highest ratings. This is pretty much the same goal as propaganda and I would go so far as to compare Rush and Fox to Gerbils. The final reason I'll list fore you is why if the information on these programs are so bad they could be considered propaganda, why would they be on the air? $$$$$$$$$$$$, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE HIGHEST RATINGS IN THE COUNTRY. These guys thrive off dumb down entertaining 'news' its easy to understand and the viewers are not forced to think about the worlds problems of themselves because the show does it for you. Rush Limbaugh is thinking of buying a professional football team for Christ sakes. So if there's one thing I can leave you with whether you're a Republican or Democrat, think for yourself. Acting like raving lunatics who think that people who don't agree with you are evil isn't going to solve the world's problems. Be wary of where you get your information from (whether fox, cnn, the new york times or the wall street journal) and why you believe what you do.
